Since founding Chalk River in Emsworth, Dan has been passionate about promoting sustainability. As an avid cyclist and regular on the South Downs hills, he envisioned a business that moved in step with the environment – quite literally.

To bring Chalk River to the community, Dan began with a bright orange tricycle, affectionately known as the Chalk River Tricycle. Fitted with a wooden crate and a simple rail, it doubled as both transport and a mobile stall. Though eye-catching, the original setup was heavy and tough to ride – even for a seasoned cyclist.

Undeterred, Dan soon upgraded to an electric tricycle and built a custom trailer complete with an integrated display rail. Tricycle 2.0 allowed him to carry more stock, travel greater distances, and continue spreading the Chalk River message – proving that sustainability and creativity can go hand in hand.
