Chalk River – Sustainable Style Inspired by Nature

Welcome to Chalk River, a sustainable clothing and lifestyle brand based in the coastal town of Emsworth, on the South Coast of the UK. We design eco-conscious, unisex clothing made from organic cotton and recycled materials, offering practical, comfortable apparel for active people who love the outdoors. From T-shirts and hoodies to bags and accessories for men, women, and children, every Chalk River item reflects our passion for nature, adventure, and sustainability – with unique, hand-printed designs that speak to our local roots and creative spirit.

Launched in Spring 2024, Chalk River was born in Emsworth – a beautiful town nestled between the historic cities of Portsmouth and Chichester. Positioned on the northern shore of Chichester Harbour, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Emsworth is a place of tranquil charm, thriving wildlife, and a strong community spirit. The natural beauty of the South Downs, coastline, and countryside around us is at the heart of everything we do.

Our name comes from the River Ems, a rare chalk stream flowing from the South Downs National Park through the West Sussex and Hampshire countryside before meeting the sea in Emsworth. These chalk streams are home to endangered flora and fauna, and their purity and quiet power inspire our commitment to sustainability and respect for nature. Just like a river, we’re about moving forward, flowing with purpose, and enriching life along the way.

At the core of Chalk River is our founder, Dan – an artist, photographer, and designer who has spent years exploring creative paths. Passionate about the outdoors and deeply connected to his local surroundings, Dan is the mind and hands behind our products. He creates the designs, hand prints the garments, packs each order, and sometimes even delivers them personally. His work blends artistry with authenticity, giving Chalk River its distinct personality.

Chalk River began with a playful design: a T-shirt celebrating the “Emsworth Riviera” with its sun, sea, and sailing culture. What started as a fun local tribute quickly grew into a brand with a wider vision. We’ve expanded gradually, introducing new products and earning a loyal following while staying true to our roots. We’re growing with care – step by step – keeping sustainability, quality, and community at the heart of what we do.

Our products are ethically made and built to last, many from organic cotton and recycled fabrics. We use recyclable packaging where possible and offer a local click-and-collect option to reduce unnecessary travel. But more than that, we’re here to celebrate the lifestyle that inspires us – getting outside, embracing the moment, and going with the flow.
